Insecurity; uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence.

According to statistical surveys approximately 80% of people face low self-esteem and anxiety issues across all ages around the world.

Eyes wide open, you contemplate if that gorgeous dress would fit your ‘out-of-shape’ body.

You master self-control when ordering a meal with your date so that he doesn’t think of you as a complete glutton.

You lock yourself in the toilet and let your tears flow thinking you’re a complete failure at your job.

You put on a straight face but your heart crumbles inside when your partner unintentionally compliments their ex.

You agree to a sexual relationship only because you don’t want your partner to think you’re not good enough.

You go on a strict diet and train at the gym daily so that you could show off your six-pack to your friends to stop them body shaming you.

You hold back from making your dreams come true and stick to your lousy job because ‘dreams are exactly what they are; just dreams!’

But the truth is…it’s all in your head and let’s face it, you’re just being a coward. You allow others to influence you, shame you, and make you think you’re no good.

Let me tell you something. You were born into this world for a purpose and that is to live your life to the fullest and not give into social influences thrown at you. All insecurities big or small start within your mind. No one but you can make yourself a happy or sad person. Only you know your strengths and weaknesses. If you don’t, the Myers-Briggs personality is one heck of guide to start with. (Believe me I learnt a lot about myself from it)

Why would you allow another person to mess with your mind? To influence your decisions? To make you feel inferior? If there is one quote to live by it’s this:

You were not born a winner, and you were not born a loser. You are what you make yourself be. ~ Lou Holtz

You are valuable. Your life is valuable and if you really look around there are so many who accept you for who you are. Being confident about yourself, your actions, and your goals is a must because without confidence you become a puppet allowing others to pull the strings. You have the power to overcome these little uncertainties in life only if you believe in yourself. You can do it!

If you like that dress on the mannequin then go ahead and try it on in a size that fits you. If you’re a foodie then make sure to go out with someone who understands that and likes you all the same. Find a partner that you can talk about your worries and who doesn’t get mad at you when you act like a drama queen even for the stupidest things. If you get a bad review at work, assess yourself and show the world what you’re capable of because that job just might not be the one for you in the first place. If you rather be at the library than at the gym then go make new friends that respect you for your choices. Don’t just follow the status quo and accept everything society tells you. You were given a brain for a reason so take a deep breath and face your fears and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Insecurities may arise from time to time but it is like a virus you need to battle with. Like any virus this too has a cure that will free you from all worry and depression. So next time your mind is at war make sure you battle it out with courage and confidence instead of giving up!

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” — Dale Carnegie
